Still adjusting...

We're almost through our second week of solids and Miss Molly is still adjusting. Last Friday we started on sweet potatoes and she seems to be loving them. The problem comes throughout the day as she tries to digest them. Molly has never really fussed without a reason. Usually she's just letting you know she's hungry or needs her diaper changed or is just darn tired. When she doesn't have an immediate need to be met and demon child decides to make a visit normally you look back an hour later and realize all those poopy diapers you just cleaned was the reason for the visit. She's all smiles once everything passes, but she's been having a harder time getting things to pass these last two weeks. Her system is going through a transition, but we've had a couple rough nights.

Little one decided to wake up at 3:30 this morning and keep mommy up for an hour and a half. It's been a while since I've had to get up when it's dark out and it really does take its toll. N was nice enough to go change Molly and bring her to mommy in bed when she woke up again. Sometimes she'll snooze after breakfast for a bit, but not this morning. She was raring to go. Can't wait for her to get used to solids and have them fill her up and knock her out rather than cause her issues. Hopefully this is just a transition and not a sign that Molly has inherited the Marsh stomach.

Solid foods

So, Miss Molly woke up last Friday morning in a bad mood. The little one was quite pissy and the only conclusion I could come to was that she was hungry and needed more. She had been gradually sleeping less at night and I've read that can happen when it's time to introduce solids. So I decided it was time to give her something more than the rice cereal she has been having. I had picked up some carrots the last time we were in Tahoe (doc recommended we start off with veggies and carrots was all the store up there had). Well, since Molly woke me up before my boobs did I wasn't fully awake. In my sleepy state I *might* have mixed up ounces and tablespoons and there's a *possibility* I gave Molly a little bit *too* much her first time. Maybe. Possibly. Slight chance. Ok, I did. Let's just say she had some digestive issues that day and demon child made a visit.

The last few days we've given her less and mixed in some breast milk to help it go down better and that seems to have done the trick. I never thought I'd say this, but I rather miss those breast milk only poopy diapers. Who knew? Since the carrots don't quite pass through the little one as easily she's been a bit fussier at night and we've had some issues getting her down and having her stay down. But once she's down she seems to be sleeping a bit more each night so I think we're on the right track with the solids. Her body just needs to adjust to the new materials.

Molly has also moved up to the convertible car seat. It's rear facing now until she reaches her first birthday and then it will be front facing. Hence the name. She can't quite pass out as easily in it since she's sitting more upright and is not as reclined as she was in her infant car seat, but she seems to be taking to it ok. The real bummer is that you can no longer "pack her up" in the house and take her out to the car. That and if she's fallen asleep in her stroller when you're out and about you have to wake her to get her into the car. I found myself at the mall yesterday doing some extra shopping after I made some returns on the outfits she's already grown out of because she had finally passed out in her stroller and I didn't have the heart to wake her. Hey, it was all stuff for Molly to wear next week when she grows out of her current size.

5 months old

Miss Molly is five months old today. I can't tell if it's hard to believe so much time has passed or if it's hard to believe so little time has passed. She's currently konked out from breakfast (ah yes, just like mama after a big meal) and I don't have the heart to wake her and weigh her. I'll try to do that later today. However I can tell you I spent the weekend retiring most of her 6 month clothing. The footie pajamas were the first to go. She's now wearing 9 and 12 month footie pjs with the 9 month ones looking awfully snug. Most of her 6 month onesies were a joke. It has recently warmed up so I attempted to put her in some of these that she has never worn before. They didn't even make it down to her booty let alone around it and back up to snap. Some of the ones marked 6-12 months still fit (Old Navy and the gap are the best bet), but we're starting to look at the 12-18 month range. I have a bunch of 6 month clothing still hanging in the closet with all of the tags still on. I've been trying to track down all of the receipts that I can so I can try and return/exchange some of these for bigger sizes.

So, tip for those of you buying baby clothes --- ALWAYS give the gift receipt. Sometimes little ones just go through a size too darn fast for your outfit to be worn. Tip for moms -- NEVER take off the tags until your child is actually wearing the outfit. Sometimes the weather just won't agree with whatever outfits you have on hand. I have a ton of onesies that Miss Molly has never worn because it was a lot easier to have her in footie pajamas than a onesie, pants, socks, and a sweater/jacket of some sort. I know some moms love to do outfits... me? not so much... Maybe Miss Molly is just a poop machine or maybe it's the cloth diapers that she immediately wants changed the second she does anything, but I just can't seem to bring myself to deck her out in a outfit when I have to take it all off within an hour to change her. And N? Forget it! If Molly is wearing something more complicated than footie pajamas when he goes to change her that's what she comes back wearing.

As you can see from recent posting Miss Molly is talking up a storm. Sometimes it's a long strand of one sound and sometimes she sounds like she's have an actual conversation. Oh yeah, she's going to be a talker. If you are having a conversation and she wants to join in she just gets louder. I don't know *where* she gets *that* from. She's also doing really well with this whole sitting business. Last Friday she was in a holdmeholdmeholdme mood and I was starving. I popped in a Baby Einstein dvd so I could sit down and eat and she sat up right during the entire thing (about 25 minutes). OK fine, she turned around to look at me a few times and I had to center her before she toppled over, but the rest of the time was all her. She's also trying to put one foot in front (or in back) of another when you hold her hands so she can stand. Girl wants to get mobile. Snickers and Sadie are so screwed! At least Michael and Charlie can hide.

Going home.

Missing home oh so bad right about now.

Titanium bionic dog.

She's better faster and stronger with actual metal to justify the
personality now!

I have something to say...

"Aghahlargaalgalalagfm!"

Mommies aren't supposed to get sick...

I woke up Saturday morning with one helluva headache. Then I got started on my day (let the dogs out, feed the cats, feed the dogs, pump, etc.) and I started to feel really nauseous. By the time Molly woke up I was very close to being sick to my stomach. I tried to push on through, but after putting her down in her crib (which she was *not* happy about) and running to the bathroom so I could dry heave I cried Uncle... well, more to the fact I cried Mommy and called my mom for relief. Granny to the rescue indeed. She was able to come over and take care of Molly so I could try and sleep off whatever stomach issues I was having. I got the Marsh stomach from my dad and every now and then it just hits you out of nowhere. I used to just crawl back into bed and sleep through it, but with a little one that's not so easy. I was able to sneak in a few hours while my mom was here so I could at least function. Luckily N was able to cut his work trip short and fly back on Saturday. He got home a little after 10 pm so that definitely helped.

The headache lingered until yesterday, but I think getting up at 4 am to drive Sadie up to Mill Valley for her surgery did not help matters. Especially since it was a little after 11:30 pm when I finally crawled into bed. I also didn't sleep that well because I was afraid I was going to sleep through my alarm and miss Sadie's appt. So I was waking up every 30-45 minutes to check the time. In a shocking turn of events we didn't hit any traffic and got up the clinic in a little over an hour. I then took Sadie on a nice long walk since it would be her last long walk for a while. She's having surgery on her left knee. The ligaments are completely torn so they are actually cutting into her bone in order eliminate the need for the ligaments altogether. The procedure is called a Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy. The recovery time is 8-10 weeks, but then she should be able to resume all normal activity. N is about to take off to go pick her up. Poor Sadie girl... I hope she scored some good drugs.

Molly talking

I took a quick video yesterday of Molly "talking" as she attempted to fit her entire fist into her mouth and then her feet. As you can tell she has quite the lung power. I wonder where she gets *that* from.

Daddy left me again!!

This time he's in New York and New Jersey... He misses me bad I bet.
I hope he works hard so he can come home early!

weigh in

It looks like it's time to get the next car seat. The one we currently have has a 22 lb weight limit. I was curious how much Molly weighs now and according to our scale she's roughly 19 lbs 3 oz. Sorry Robert, it looks like Molly is still the heavyweight champion.

sitting up

As you can see from the video and pics below Molly has been getting better and better at this whole sitting thing. When she actually bends (still loves to stand) she can hold herself in the sitting position for a couple of minutes. Longer if she's focused on something straight ahead like the Baby Einstein dvds. However, once she looks around and her head moves away from center she tends to topple over. When I was packing up all of her gear yesterday I had her propped up on pillows on our bed. Molly pulled herself into the sitting position twice. Granted she was already halfway there thanks to the pillows, but I'll take it.
