Fallen Leaf Lake and private pool
On Saturday Granny and Grandpa Marsh, Molly, and I went for a drive to Fallen Leaf Lake. We cut over on Tahoe Mountain Road so we could bypass some of the traffic on 89. It was a gorgeous day and a very nice drive. This is definitely a summer only area as the road was one lane and shared by cars going both directions. There were several cottages located on (and partially over) the water. It was gorgeous!
Sunday we were on the road by 11:00 am. Molly crashed out about a half an hour into the drive so we just kept going until she woke up. It was a scorcher of a day and at one point the temp gauge in my car read 97. When we arrived to Grandma Lucille's it was still quite warm out so she inflated the little pool she bought for Molly and we filled it up. Her backyard was mostly in shade so we decided to just strip Molly down and let her run amok. She loved being naked baby with her own private pool!
I also posted some pics in the K - July, Aug, Sept 2009 gallery from our last trip to the Children's Discovery Museum:
There were also some from Molly and daddy running around our front yard:
Oh, and one that will come in handy when Molly wants to start dating:
The gallery is in reverse chronological order so make sure you scroll back until you see Molly sportin' her awesome hat.

Greetings from Tahoe
Molly, Sadie, and I drove up to Tahoe on Wednesday. I woke up that morning and realized Molly gave me whatever cold she has been fighting this week and knew her first swim class was going to be a no go. So instead I packed up and got us on the road by 10:00 so we could head up to the cabin. Granny and Grandpa Marsh have been at their time share in south shore all week and we were going to join them. The drive up was a little tricky as I was solo parent and had a gimp dog in tow. I pulled up to our first stop and it was a lovely 87 out. I realized I couldn't just leave Sadie in the back of the Subaru while I went inside to go to the bathroom so I moved her up front and cracked the windows and tried to be quick. It seemed to work out just fine. We made two stops and it took a little longer than normal as I had to juggle Molly and Sadie, but it all worked out in the end.
We got up to the cabin and then I realized I needed to do something with Molly while I unloaded the car. So I buckled her into her booster chair, snapped the tray down, and gave her a snack. I put on an episode of Sesame Street for good measure and unloaded the car. I heard her holler at me a few times as I went down the stairs, but by the time I got back up she was into her show and could care less that I had disappeared for a few minutes. We then headed over to Granny and Grandpa's time share and I was really starting to feel the full extent of this head cold. The grandparents did their best to tire her out and we got some yummy meatball subs for dinner. Molly and I then headed back to the cabin and I hoped for a good night's sleep.
Wrong.
Molly's cough came back (I'm guessing the dry air was the culprit) and she had me up every hour between 8:00 and midnight. She finally fell asleep, but I was at that super annoying stage where you have that tickle in the back of your throat and your eyes are watering and you just can't fall asleep. So yeah, was more than a little tired yesterday. Luckily Granny and Grandpa wanted to spend some quality time with Molly so I loaded up a few things and dropped her off around 11:00. I was able to come back to the cabin and crash out for a few hours and felt much better. Molly had a blast and was able to go swimming in the pool at the time share. My dad also took her for a ride on the luggage carts (with sound effects) that they had in their lobby. When we arrived we saw one in the parking lot as some folks had just arrived and Molly immediately pointed at them and started saying, "Grandpa" over and over again.
Last night we went out for a nice dinner and sat outside. It was a beautiful evening and other than Molly tossing her new fuzzy monster in the fountain (which I totally called as I went inside to get food) it was a great night. We stopped by the new Red Hut Soda Fountain that opened up and I got myself a very yummy chocolate shake. Hey, my throat was sore and I needed something to soothe it! Molly slept through the night (as did I) and it was freakin' Sadie that woke me up just after 6 this morning. She whined first to be let out and I tried to get her back up on the bed with me. The little stinker then backed up just enough so that her wagging tail would thump against the door frame. Alright already, I'm up! When we came back inside I could hear Molly babbling. I blame Sadie. Luckily Molly was totally content to snuggle up next to me on the couch while watching Sesame Street so I was able to doze a bit more.
Granny and Grandpa checked out of their time share today and will be spending the next two nights at the cabin with us. Molly is currently napping and then we plan to head down to the Beacon for some rumrunners. Oh, and some beach time for Molly. ;-)

poor Sadie
Sadie has been limping pretty hard since we got back from Tahoe last week. We had her on Rimadyl, but I weaned her off that to see how bad it really was and she pretty much turned into a three legged dog. So we went to the vet this morning and she has blown out her right knee. Sadie had a Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy in March 2008 at The Sams Clinic in Mill Valley. We're heading up there on October 8th for a consult. Surgery will be needed and at this point I'm guessing it will be the same procedure.
Poor Sadie.
Poor Sadie.

N's out of town, Molly's sick
Seems about right.
Molly spent last night at Grandma Lucille's while N and I went to Jon's birthday dinner. N had to leave early and catch a red eye to Miami for a business trip, but I was able to catch the movie 9 with most of the group after dinner. I picked Molly up this morning and Lucille mentioned she had a little cough and I chalked it up to the recent change in weather (we had thunderstorms for a whole 5 minutes!). We had a play date scheduled for... well, RIGHT now and I was hoping Molly would crash out for her nap early. She fell asleep in the car just before noon and I thought we were all on track to make the play date in time.
About 1:00 pm Molly woke herself up coughing. I got a pillow under one end of her mattress and crossed my fingers she wouldn't turn herself around and then rocked her to sleep propped up on me in her glider. She woke up around 2:30 and was NOT happy. When I walked in she was sideways in her bed so I'm thinking I might have to remove the pillow. Her throat is definitely sore as she sounds like she's been smoking 20 packs a day for way longer than she's been alive. Two popsicles and one yogurt later and she seems in much better spirits, but is definitely not feeling well.
Poor bug.
I hope she beats whatever this is soon. Swim lessons start back up this Wednesday.

Tahoe
We've been having a lovely time in Tahoe. Uncle Kyle and Cathy joined us on Thursday and stayed until Sunday. I had picked up a Magna Doodle for Molly, but I think Kyle enjoyed it more. N and him took turns drawing numbers and quizzing Molly on them. She pretty much has 1-10 down at this point. Next up, the alphabet!
Most of our days were spent hiking and playing Settlers once Molly went down for the night. We had one heated game where Kyle, N, and I all had 9 points... ALL of the Development Cards were in play... AND I accused N of cheating. Heh. N won (he claims the "cheating incident" wouldn't have made a difference), but I'm still a little bitter as I would have won on my next turn which was right after his. Poor Kyle and Cathy were witness to a lovely little "discussion" between husband and wife. N also picked up the Seafarers expansion and we played that the last night Kyle and Cathy were here. There is a lot more going on in that game. In my final turn I got two points and ended up winning with 14 instead of the necessary 13 points. Yay me! ;-)
On Sunday I took Sadie on a hike while N hung back with Molly during her nap. We went up to the pond where there were two horses so I couldn't let Sadie off leash to go swimming. Her knee has been flaring up so we've been keeping her on leash for most of the hikes to help reduce the limping afterwards. So Sadie and I went past the pond and then headed up to the top of the ridge. There is a still a lot of fire damage up that way and it's pretty eerie.
We didn't quite make it to the top as Sadie decided she was done and started to pull me back down the mountain. This is as close as we got:
They are also doing a LOT of work on the trail up to the pond. What used to be a pretty narrow trail for the last trek up to the pond is now pretty much a fire road. The little Y junction to make that last turn up to the pond is now.... well, this:
The pic above was taken as Sadie and I were coming down from the ridge. The vehicles are right after you go across the culvert to get to the Y junction up to the pond. The cabin would be at 2:00 or so with the pond being at 4:00. There was still a lot of ash on the ground so Sadie and I were quite the sight by the time we got back to the cabin.
We also headed down to Carson City so we could hit Costco and pick up a new tv. The cabin is finally up to date! N can sleep better knowing we have HD capabilities in the woods. Of course now the lack of a high def tivo is glaringly apparent, but one thing at a time. The new dvd player is also capable of Netflix and You Tube (among a few other things) so we also have access to our Watch Instantly queue which is nice. We just need to do something about the blue cable going across the floor and up the ladder to the loft where the router is. Details, details.
Yesterday we drove up to Hiro's for All You Can Eat Sushi and to meet up with Auntie Nicole. We definitely made the right choice in heading up Monday night as opposed to Sunday night as there was NOBODY there when we arrived. We got our place at the bar and started stuffing ourselves silly. The bar was full by the time we were done and we pretty much rolled our bloated selves out of there. I love that place.

What the...?
Daddy was talking to Molly from the other side of the park. Molly paused for a minute and then tentatively asked, "Grandma?"
uber park
In Carson City, NV and we spied this uber playground from the highway. Letting Molly run around before the drive back to the cabin.
